Business & Enterprise

This terms arts kete was business and Enterprise. There was different topics that we could make our business around and we did health & care. I had a group of 4 including me and my friends Arnicka, Christina & Teagan.

We had a idea of gift bags with bath bombs, lip balms, lollies etc. We were set on the idea but we had a limit of what we were allowed to spend and we had gone over the limit. Our business & enterprise teacher was Miss Costello. She gave us lots of ideas and we had a good idea of Christmas sweets that was mainly candy canes. The things we made were mice with a small candy cane in there, a big candy cane that had antlers and a face on it. We also made a wreath with about 10-20 candy canes on it. We sold the mice for $1, the candy cane reindeer for $1.50 and the wreath for $5.

Our learnings were the limit we were allowed to spend (about 20 dollars). We had different job roles but I forgot them all, the main role was CEO but I was the financial manager. I wrote the letter for the stuff we wanted to purchase for our business. Our business was successful and we sold about everything.

The choices we made for our business were important because we had to stick to a budget and items people would actually buy. We also had to decide on the prices for our items.

I think we all applied ourselves equally and we all did stuff towards our business. 

Our business was pretty successful because we sold out of one item and we sold most of the items. We also made more money then our budget.

Our group included the values of HHS during market day because we all worked hard on our business and we tried our best to make our business successful. We also had a good business on the day and the customers were pleased with our business.

Making Ginger Beer

 Aim:

I want to know how to brew (make) ginger beer.

How to make ginger beer

Method:

Equipment

• Ginger (source of sugar)
• Warm water
• Yeast
• Cup
• Spoon

Instructions

1. Get the equipment.
2. Put 1 tablespoon of ginger in the cup.
3. Half fill the cup with warm water.
4. Add 1 teaspoon of yeast.
5. Mix it all together.
6. Leave it to ferment for a week
7. After 1 week taste it.

Results:

The ginger beer didn't really taste good, it just tasted like water with ginger.

Red Cabbage Indicator

 Aim: 

I want to find out how red cabbage can tell if liquid is an acid or a base.

Instructions

1. Get all your equipment
2. Cut your cabbage into little pieces
3. Cut your cabbage in the hot water
4. Mix it around till the water turns a dark purple
5. Get 3 drops of the purple water in each tube
6. Add base and acid to your purple water
7. Mix them together and make your own colours

Making Sherbet

Aim:

I want to find out how to sherbet

Research: 

Method

Equipment

• Popsicle Stick
• Cictric Acid
• Raro
• Baking soda
• Paper

Instructions:

1. Wash your hands
2. Get your equipment
3. Put paper on your table
4. Get a pile of the 3 powders
5. Using your Popsicle stick mix some of each powder together
6. Taste the Sherbet
7. If there is too much Baking Soda, add more Citric Acid
8. If there is too much Citric Acid, add more baking soda
9. If you want to improve the flavour add more raro

Results:

My sherbet came out with a good taste, it was sweet and sower from the Citric Acid. It also tasted a bit bitter and it foamed up in your mouth.

Discussion: Why did the sherbet foam in your moth but not on the paper? Because it the reaction in your moth and the foam forms because of the saliva in your mouth.

What was the chemical reaction in sherbet? The chemical reaction is between the Citric acid and sodium bicarbonate. The reaction makes foam, the foam was caused in your mouth from the wet saliva.

What type of chemical reaction is this? Neutralisation 

Blind taste testing

 Aim: I want to find out if food taste differently when you can't see or smell.

4. Get your food and eat it
5. Unblock your nose

Eating Hot Chilli

 Aim: 

I want to find out how to get rid of burning chilli off my tongue.

• Popsicle stick
• Chilli
• Coke
• Water
• Milk
• Timer
• Cup

Instructions

1. Get your equipment
2. Scoop some chilli onto your stick
3. Start the timer and eat the chilli
4. Stop the timer after 4mins
5. Rate how hot your mouth is
6. Do the experiment again but drink water after 2 mins
7. Do experiment again but drink coke after 2 mins
8. Drink milk

Results

The first chilli I did was without water and I am scoring it a 10 for burning.

The second time, I had water and after 4mins I scored it a 9 for burning.

The third time, I had Coca-cola and I scored it a 5 for burning after 4mins.

The fourth time, I had milk and I scored it a 3 for burning left over.

This term we're learning about income. This is my definition of what income is.

Income is money that comes in that you get paid for maybe from a jobs you do, allowance or winning a lotto ticket. 

Everyone needs income because they might end up being bankrupt. Income is also interest, interest is when you keep a amount of money in your savings and have a budget and use that certain amount of money.

3. Use a marker pen to write your name and location on the lid
4. Wet the cut tip and swab
5. Gently swab the agar plate
6. Tape around the edges of the ager plate
7. Put the agar plate in an incubator overnight
8. Observe the plate the next day

Holidays

 Hi

Today I'm gonna write about something I did in the holidays.

On Sunday it was a sunny day so me and my family decided to go to the beach and get a ice cream. When we got to the beach me and my brothers were playing with a ball, and I also took photos. We left the beach and left to go get ice cream from a shop. I got cookies and cream ice cream. 

After we got our ice creams we drove off to go to the mall to look around. When we left the mall we all went home and chilled for the rest of the day.

Kia Ora

In Hurumanu with Mrs Allan we've been coding on a site called code.org.

Code.org is a site that has different lessons with codings to do. There is 20 lessons to do and I'm on lesson 10. Coding is fun but difficult sometimes because of little mistakes that you make that are hard to realise that you need to fix.

Here is a example of what Code.org looks like. We were set with a certain course which is Course F. 

Right now I'm finishing off lesson 10.

In hurumanu with Mrs Allen-Fletcher we have been using a site called Code.org. This is a coding site where you make things on it.

Me and my 2 friends Christina and Cayleigh had been working on a dance coding party thing today. We managed to add multiple characters and coded them to dance. We also added party related things like neon lights and disco balls.

Science - Coke & Mentos

 Aim: I want to find out how many bubbles are made when Mentos is dropped in Coke.

Method: 

Equipment

• Safety Glasses
• Coke
• Coke zero
• Sprite
• Mentos
• Detergent
• Measuring cylinder
• Small beaker

Instructions:

1. Get your equipment
2. Pour 20ml of coke into a 100ml measuring cylinder
3. Pour Detergent into the beaker, then add some of the detergent from the beaker into the 10ml measuring cylinder to the 5ml line
4. Add the 5ml of detergent into the coke.
5. Then pop the mentos into the coke
6. Wait for it to fizz up 

Results:

	Coke	Coke Zero	Sprite
Height of the bubbles	30ml	50ml	70ml

Conclusion:

I found out that only mint mentos works and not fruit mentos and that sprite works better then coke zero and coke.
